Poinsett Pounders Raise $42,000

Over 1500 people raised more than $42,000 at the Poinsett Pounders’ Second Annual Ride for the Ribbon in Badger, SD on February 6th. The day started with registration in Badger Hall and over 50 snowmobilers left Badger in many groups. The riders went around Lake Poinsett, Lake Albert, Arlington, and through the trails back to Badger. After returning, all the riders were greeted to dinner.

The evening began with a live auction, the conclusion of the silent auction, and recognition of the riders who earned gold, silver, or bronze rider status. Diane Hiles, DeSmet, of the Town and Country Snowmobile Club was the top collector with over $2000 raised this year. Bonnie Moeller, Bryant, of the Poinsett Pounders collected over $1800 and Marietta Lakness, Hayti, also of the Poinsett Pounders, earned gold rider status withover $1300 collected. Nine other collectors earned bronze donation rider status by collecting over $250 each. Many others, club members and non-members alike, donated auction items and time to make the day a successful event.

The auction included the purchase of six hats donated by our volunteer auctioneer, Jack Bunker, which were for a chance to take home a pink homemade quilt. Over $1400 was raised by this event alone. The John Green original painting raffle was drawn after the live auction and won by Taylor Watkins of Beresford, SD and the big ticket snowmobile raffle was won by Clint Davis of Sioux Falls.

The Poinsett Pounders sent net proceeds of $33,000 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure where seventy-five percent of the proceeds stay in South Dakota toward education and twenty-five percent goes to national research projects.

Thank you to the Poinsett Pounders and the entire community for your support!
